Press Release - 21

The 11th ASC Executive Committee Meeting

5th April 2008, Nanjing Grand Hotel, China

The ASC President, H.E. Sheikh Salman Al Sabah, gave the floor to the Deputy Director General of Jiangsu Province Sport Bureau, Mr. Zhou Xu, to address the meeting.

Mr. Zhou Xu welcomed all ASC Officials and Executive members on behalf of Jiangsu Province, and expressed his delight at being able to host both the 2nd Asian Air Gun Championships and the 11th ASC Executive Committee meeting in Nanjing.

The President then welcomed all Executive Committee members, thanked them for their support and declared the meeting open at 1900.

H.E. Sheikh Salman Al Sabah expressed the importance of unity and working as one team to achieve our objective to strengthen the shooting sports throughout Asia and the world under the umbrella of the ISSF.

Key points highlighted during the meeting were:

  • The necessity to support our strategy for ongoing development by increasing the number of programs for youth and junior competitions;

  • Continuously upgrading our communication facilities, particularly the ASC website and E-mailing systems; and

  • ASC’s adherence to raising awareness of a “clean” sport by supporting initiatives of our Medical Committee

ASC Vice Presidents put forth several proposals:

  • The establishment of an ASC academy to be run on distance-learning principles. An interim team was formed to follow up the preparations for success;

  • Continuous upgrading of Judges and Coaches by holding more local, national and International instruction courses; recent examples being the ISSF “B” Judges’ License Course and EST Course held in India;

  • Increasing the amount of International competitions throughout the Asian Continent.  Such as this 2nd Asian Air Gun Championship: and

  • Studying the best ways of increasing sponsorship for our sport

Decisions arising from the Technical and Judges’ Committee proposals:

  • Renaming of the position of Assistant Jury to Extra Jury in order to convey that the position is indeed a full Jury position but at no financial burden to the Organizing Committee;

  • Additional Jury members to be assigned to shotgun ranges for major competitions;

  • The encouragement to appoint one member from the Technical and Judges’ committee to serve as a Jury member on all Asian and regional Championships;

  • The change of date of the 3rd Asian Air Gun Championship (to be held in Qatar) to 2009 owing to a very crowded 2010 International and Asian schedule

Approved proposal from the Medical and Anti-Doping Committee:

  • The establishment of a Medical profiling system of all Asian International shooting athletes

From the Development and Fund raising Sub-Committee:

  •  Raising sponsorship for holding Judges and Coaching courses; and

  • Proposal for an annual Junior competition on the Asian Continent.

The Executive Committee approved the following courses:

2008:

2nd Practical Coaching course for Rifle and Pistol                        in Bahrain 1-7 November; and

2nd Practical Coaching course for Shotgun                                    in Kuwait 24-29 October

2009:

3rd Practical Coaching course for Rifle and Pistol                       in China; and

3rd Practical Coaching course for Shotgun                                    in Thailand

Having no other comments and questions, the meeting thereby adjourned at 2100.
